Two concerts will take place at FCA utilizing our wonderful piano and several local musicians. The first will take place at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2011 featuring pianist/baritone Charles Rann and guitarist/composer Jim Bosse.
Charles retired in Cañon City in 2005 after a forty year career in music education and vocal/piano performance in the St. Louis metropolitan area. He was a baritone soloist in more than fifty oratories and was a guest conductor for more than a dozen festival choruses. Since moving to Colorado, he has been a frequent soloist with the Pueblo Choral Society, served as Artistic Director for the Fremont Civic Choir (2008-2011) and currently directs the Cañon City United Presbyterian Church's Chancel Choir.
Jim began his music career with various rock bands in New York, Philadelphia and Colorado. A few of the musicians he performed with achieved success in popular music – most notably Billy Joel, who Jim performed with from 1962 – 1967. His interest gradually shifted to classical music. He founded the Colorado Springs Guitar Society, taught guitar at Adams State College (1995-1997) and at the University of Southern Colorado (1997-2000). He has performed over 300 concerts throughout North and South America.
The concert on November 20th will feature one of Jim's compositions, Suite Grandkids for guitar and voice. Charles will present a collection of American Folk Songs which he has arranged for baritone and piano. Also on the program will be selections from "The Man of LaMancha".
Tickets will be sold at FCA, Cross Music and at the concert. General admission is $15; $10 for seniors and FCA members; and $5 for students.
The second concert will be on February 26, 2012 and will feature Abe Minzer on Piano, Joyce Hanagan on Oboe and Jim Bosse on guitar.

FREMONT CENTER FOR THE ARTS
Presents for the
150th Anniversary of Fremont County
Cañon City, Colorado
CHALK IT UP
Guinness world record for the longest HIGHWAY chalk drawing
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Chalk it Up will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Fremont County, CO through an interactive community art project under the auspices of the Fremont Center for the Arts. It will encompass all 2 ½ miles of Skyline Drive offering 3300 4' x 4' squares to all Fremont County residents who wish to participate in the creation of a Colorado themed chalk artwork. We intend this to be the longest most unique tableau of its kind and a Guinness World Record setting event.
WHAT IT WILL LOOK LIKE
Skyline Drive is a one way scenic road overlooking Cañon City. It is able to be gated off and stretches 2 ½ miles above the city. Registration booths will be set up at each end of the drive and participants will be shuttled to the last completed chalk drawings, the first of which will be begun at the 1 ¼ mile mark and will progress downward toward each end. There will be water stations and port a potties at each pull out along the 2 ½ mile drive with food and refreshment vendors at ground level on each end. Many volunteers will patrol the perimeters of the drive as a safety measure and will be on hand to assist participants.
INTERACTIVITY
This event will engage countywide participation. School Art classes will be given the materials to make the chalk which will be used. The Royal Gorge ATV club will be asked to shuttle participants up and down skyline drive. Civic Clubs will be asked to participate as volunteers, parking lot shuttle drivers, and check-in personnel. Businesses will be asked to pay a nominal fee to purchase spaces they will draw with their logos for advertising purposes. All other spaces will be free to the individual or non-commercial participants. AUDIENCE Our audience could be international. But those most enriched will be the local Fremont County residents who create the world record breaking chalk drawing. Aerial photographs will be taken of the project by Zack Reynolds, formerly photographer for the National Geographic and wide local and state media coverage is expected.
COLLABORATION
There will be hundreds of volunteers necessary for this project. People of all ages with or without any artistic training will be invited to participate. They will be recruited from schools, civic and social groups and the county at large. All of the chalk will be handmade by our school art classes and Fremont Center art classes. Each participant will receive a commemorative button. Volunteers will receive commemorative t-shirts. We will be working closely with the Historic Preservation Society, The Library, The Chamber of Commerce, The Canon City Public Art Committee and community organizations. Many things have been scheduled to commemorate our 150th anniversary including the recent exhibit of historic photos, quilts and purchased permanent collection paintings at the Fremont Center for the Arts. Chalk it Up is the most extensive event in scope. Additionally the Fremont Center for the Arts has monthly scheduled events and many individual artist and photography exhibits.
Through our multi-media advertising program, everyone in the county will be invited to participate and the prospect of national coverage encourages businesses to volunteer and donate their resources as well.

THIS MONTH’S PROGRAM IS PERFORMANCE ART.
“THE SPELL OF THE YUKON”
BY FCA BOARD MEMBER ROB SMITH AS “CAP”
WITH MUSIC BY CHARLIE KING
This program is based on the hugely popular class that Rob and Charlie have done at the Senior Mini College for several years. Many people who could not attend the Mini College have requested another opportunity to see the show, which explores the Yukon Gold Rush of 1897, as recorded by Poet Robert Service, Photographer E.A. Hegg, and Artist Ted Harrison.
The performance is poetry, narration, music, historic photography, and colorful art, all woven together into an entertaining look at the incredible events of 1897-1899, when “The Spell of the Yukon” gripped North America!
Note to Canon Rose Fans: This program will be done in time to get to the Canon Rose Concert featuring the always popular Jim Young. Make it an evening to remember. Attend BOTH of these entertaining events!!!
