public mural artwork

Also opening on First Friday, March 1st and showing throughout the month is the
Public Arts Mural Program Artwork in our Studio Gallery.

”The Public Arts Mural Program incorporates an effort to showcase local student art by replacing fading and peeling existing murals and adding new ones. The program is a multi-year program which will incorporate environmental themes into the murals as an attractive and informative way to educate our residents and visitors to Canon City as they enjoy our local attractions. Local students have submitted art work for the murals, which may incorporate the Canon City environment, recreational opportunities, businesses and the need for a clean environment. The program is jointly sponsored by the Mountain View Core Knowledge School and the City of Canon City Stormwater Program. The first murals will replace most of the existing murals on the 4th Street Viaduct supports. Please join us on this First Friday [March 1st] to view the submitted student artwork and vote on your favorite pieces to be featured in the murals! Finalists will be forwarded to City Council for final approval before painting begins in May.” —Glenda DeBekker, Stormwater Technician
